Johnnie (JRV) Vaughn

My work explores the intersection between structure and spontaneity. As a dialogue between geometric order and the raw energy of the urban environment, influenced by the purity of form and color found in the works of Rothko, Mondrian, Martin, and Scully, my paintings use shape, rhythm, and repetition to build visual architecture. These structured compositions are then disrupted by layers of graffiti-inspired texture, drips, and gestural marks, introducing elements of chance, imperfection, and urban grit.
