Veteran Art Institute Artists

I started painting in High school. I grew up in a family of duck hunter guides. I started drawing the ducks coming into decoys on my school folders. Then I had the idea of making a duck stamp. Then after several paintings, I found out they only submitted watercolors.

I always figure that my art work was a gift from God. Art helped me heal after Vietnam, probably why God gifted me. I worked as an engineer most of my working years. But always used art to bring me down to earth again. It was my medicine. Lately been doing contract paints of people’s favorite photos. I loved doing it for the joy it provided. I also kept me expanding my abilities to paint. I hope you enjoy my work. Know that an old sailor is doing better because of it.

Brian’s Bugs and other things…

I have loved drawing all my life, as a young child my mother would give me a pen and paper to keep me quiet during church. Growing up I was heavily influenced by Jack Kirby, my favorite comic book artist. I started painting in ninth grade. Not paying attention in art class, I just developed my own style of painting. My work is impressionistic to a degree; at times I incorporate colors or distortions that reflect my emotions at the time. Often the result resembles comic book art.

After high school and my time in the Army, I returned to Minnesota and attended Commercial Art at the Mankato Technical College. I worked in that field for ten years and found it very unfulfilling. I abandoned art and found healthcare was a much more gratifying field, I worked at Detox, the Security Hospital and Mayo for the next 20 years until retiring in 2024. During all that time I attempted to paint on and off but life was too distracting and demanding, especially while battling severe depression. After I retired, I found my passion again.

Nature has always intrigued me, and I am fascinated by the small seldom seen worlds I find. After planting a Native pollinator garden, I was amazed at all of the flowers, colors and the insects that came to live there. This inspired me to return to painting after many years to do a series of bugs. I also like doing landscapes and started incorporating bugs into them as well. Memories and experiences of growing up in Mankato, also give me inspiration. I even finished some old paintings I had started, one of which was from 1981!

After years of battling depression, painting has helped me return to the light.

I served in the USMCR from 1976-1986; the US Army Guard, IRR, Reserve and Active Component from 1992-2010. Like all of you, I did my duty when I was called. I have always been drawn to art in it's many forms. Art has a way of transcending the every day life and making ordinary things interesting. I'm on a journey to see what other revelations art, photography, can reveal to me.

Currently, I am a Visual Arts major, and I enjoy working with oil, acrylic, and watercolors. My favorite mediums are charcoal and ink pen. Some of my best work comes from exploring mixed media. I also create with ceramics and sculpture. Art is a way for me to express myself, vent emotions, and clear my mind. As I like to say, "My demons go to art therapy."

"I was born and raised in San Jose, California, the son of migrant farm workers who settled in the Santa Clara Valley, an agricultural region that later became known as Silicon Valley. During my teenage years, I spent school breaks sorting and picking fruit at local orchards. At 18, I joined the U.S. Navy Seabees, serving honorably for 4 years before being discharged with a service-related disability. Following my discharge, I enrolled in the O.I.C. (Opportunities Industrialization Center) program, where I received formal training as an electro-mechanical design draftsman.

Subsequently, I embarked on a career spanning 45 years, offering manufacturing, engineering, and graphic design services to various high-tech companies. Throughout my professional journey, I worked during the day and attended evening classes for a decade. Upon retirement, I transitioned into a full-time artist, embracing my passion for creativity and artistic expression."

Pretty much self-taught entirely. I bounce between Illustration and Landscapes for the most part, equally loving both. I'm most at home with a pencil in hand, but I'm just as happy with a paintbrush. My landscapes are normally in acrylic on canvas, but I also work in watercolor and pastel. Illustrations are started in pencil and could remain in pencil or move to ink and marker or watercolor or some mixed media.

I spent 28 years in the Air Force and ANG, almost all of which I was an Aircraft Hydraulics Mechanic. I worked on KC-135's, C-5's, C-141's, a little on C-130's and F-16's. My career took me all over the world, Okinawa, Diego Garcia, Japan, Saudi, Kuwait, Africa, Western Europe, UK, and Iraq.

I served active duty from 1980-1984 Korea, Fort Riley KS.. 1986 to 2004 Active National Guard, (AGR) in the state of Nebraska. I spent the next 16 years serving mostly at the " Region IV NCO Academy" as an instructor. M.O.S.'s acquired during the years were many: 36C,76C,76Y,71L and then 88M.

My love for art has been always it is ingrained in my soul.

My identity as an Artist are Pencils first, Acrylic second. I love to draw, I am a self-taught artist. I donate a lot of my art to the V.A. Clinic's in the Omaha, Nebraska area. I donate the art and they pay for the framing.

All of my cards that are 5x7 come with an envelope and a sleeve to protect the card; some are two sided and others are just the card that makes a nice picture in a small frame. I have included several of them in my posts. All are for sale that are 5x7. All of my Art is Original work. I do not make any copy's. They are truly one of one.

As a digital art illustrator, he possess a wide range of skills and expertise in creating captivating and visually stunning artwork in the traditional hand drawn and painted style. Bautista is an architect, artist, and building designer & construction manager with a diverse academic background, holding degrees in architecture, art, and a master certificate in microcomputers and microprocessors. His education spans prestigious institutions, including the School of Architecture & Urban Planning, NYU College of Architecture, and NRI, Washington, DC.

As a full-time designer for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, NY District, he specializes in Building Information Modeling (BIM), shaping projects that range from master planning to residential, assembly, industrial, educational, healthcare, commercial, storage, and military developments—leaving a lasting impact on an international scale.

Beyond architecture, Bautista is an accomplished photographer and digital artist, earning the AUDIENCE AWARD in 2022 for Life Perfect Before And After in Copenhagen, Denmark. A published author in art, architecture, and photography, he continues to push creative boundaries. He is also a dedicated advocate for the arts, serving as an Active Board Member of LIC-Artists in Long Island City, New York.

I served for 6 1/2 in the US Army. Spent time in the Gulfwar & suffer from Saudi Syndrome. So get my mind off it I draw & paint. Something comes to my mind (or my wife asks me about). I draw or paint & it relaxes me, clears my mind.

Pen and Ink artist and Painter

I served active duty from 1994-1997 as a plane captain for F-14 and F-18 jets based out of Pt Mugu, CA. I am an ever-evolving artist who loves to share work in mediums ranging from Oils and Acrylic to Markers and even blends of Wine (which is my favorite… CHEERS!).

As an artist and have been blessed to exhibit both nationally and internationally… and have even had the opportunity to have my work featured in a Geico Commercial (just google Laura Taylor Geico). My painting and drawings range from Portraits to Architecture, Landscapes and what ever comes out of this little Gypsy Soul of mine.
